But what actually makes a strong brand and how is it structured?


In marketing – as in many disciplines – there are different ways to design or represent a brand. We prefer a clear, pragmatic approach in which the brand image is based on the following four components:

  • Brand core
  • Brand story
  • Brand mission
  • Brand principles

Interestingly, it makes sense not to start directly with the core of the brand, but to describe it at the very end. The brand core is the ultimate condensation of what the company or brand achieves and is the ultimate experience from all brand levels.

The brand story arises from the founding story or original idea and essentially defines the DNA of the company, which can usually be felt and experienced to this day. The brand mission (mission statement) is then the clearly formulated order that results from the original idea or origin story. Here the core task of the company/brand is chiseled into two or three clear sentences. The brand principles subsequently ensure that the brand mission is carried out in the best possible way. They are clear principles of action that ensure that the mission stays on track and is successful.
